Behind the Scenes: What Really Happens During a Corporate Video Shoot

Corporate video production may seem like a complex, chaotic whirlwind of cameras, cables, and a stressed-out crew - especially if you’re new to the process. But don’t worry, the reality is far more organised and purposeful than you might think.

At True Lies Ltd, our job is to take all that hustle and transform it into a polished, professional video that tells your organisation’s story. Whether you’re planning your first corporate shoot, or you already have a few in the portfolio, understanding what happens behind the scenes can make all the difference.

Watch this short video for a quick insight into what really goes on during a corporate video shoot, so you know exactly what to expect and how we create a seamless process from start to finish...

1. What Happens on the Day of a Corporate Video Shoot?

When the production crew arrives, our first task is to set up the lights, cameras and sound equipment. This setup phase is crucial and takes some time, which is why our crew will usually arrive earlier than you or any other participants (speaking contributors, actors if relevant). This time ensures that everything is perfectly set before we even start rolling.

Use this opportunity to relax and get ready. Review any last-minute details, get familiar with the space, or grab a coffee while you go over the script or plan for the day. Once everything is prepared, it’s showtime - but don’t worry. We take the time to make sure you’re comfortable, we'll review your talking points and get you settled before filming begins.

2. Who’s Who on Set? Meet the Key Crew Members

A corporate video shoot involves a highly skilled team, each playing a vital role. While there are many professionals working hard behind the scenes, here are the key crew members you’re most likely to meet:

• The Director (that’s me!): I guide the overall vision and ensure that your message comes across clearly and professionally. It’s my job to ensure we capture your organisation in the best light.

• The Camera Operator: While I focus on the vision, the camera operator handles the technical details such as framing and making sure you and your colleagues look great on camera.

• The Lighting Technician: Lighting is everything! Our lighting technician ensures that you’re well-lit, which yes, ensures that you're visible, but more importantly sets the tone, the mood and the atmosphere of your video.

• The Sound Technician: Sometimes, the sound crew hears things we wouldn’t even notice, like subtle background noise. If they recommend pausing, it’s for good reason - clear, crisp sound is essential. After all, an engaged audience can sit through less than perfect visual - but they'll never endure less than perfect sound. Just look at The Blair Witch Project.

3. Multiple Takes: Why They Matter

From the outside, multiple takes may give the impression that things are under-prepared. In fact, this couldn't be further from the truth.

Imagine if Spielberg captured each scene of Jurassic Park in just one take - Perfect! Home early! Send it to the theatres! But what happens when they bring all those single, perfect shots into the editing room and realise only then, that something minor happened which nobody could have possibly noticed on filming day? Perhaps a fly dashed passed the camera lens so fast that nobody could have noticed. Maybe the T-Rex was accidentally spotted in the background wearing New Balance trainers (when the film's budget is generously supported by Nike). Multiple takes give us the flexibility we need to make sure we're well covered, making responsible, diligent use of filming time, and we get the best possible version of your message on-screen. So don’t worry if you fumble a line or need to redo a take - everyone does it! More takes mean more options in the editing room to create that beautiful, finished product.

4. Collaboration is Key

A successful video shoot is a collaboration between your organisation and our production team. We guide you through the process, offering expert feedback, worthwhile adjustments and ensuring you’re as comfortable as possible every step of the way.

But to make something truly great, we collaborate. If something in the script doesn’t sound quite right or you feel the tone should shift for any reason, you can let us know. Your insight is invaluable, and this is your chance to shape the final product to align with your vision.

Remember, we’re making something creative with your brand at the centre - and that's a process we can all enjoy and contribute to, together!

5. The Magic of Post-Production

Every step of a video shoot is important, but post-production is where the real magic happens. Our talented editors take all the raw footage, select the best takes and work their magic with graphics, colour correction, sound design, and music.

This process ensures that everything flows exactly as planned. And just like during the shoot, you’ll be involved throughout. The more we collaborate, the quicker we can deliver a video that looks fantastic and communicates your message exactly how you imagined.
